Svartalfheim (SVART-alf-hame) had another name of Nidavellir (NID-ur-vell-ir). While Svartalfheim meant the homeland of the dwarves, Nidavellir meant the Low Fields. Actually, both names pointed to the right special things that separated Svartalfheim with others. The dwarves dwelling in Savrtalfheim was the most talented craftsmen in Norse cosmology. They produced many weapons and creatures that belonged to many famous Norse gods. For example, the Mjolnir hammer of Thor, the Gungnir spear of Odin the Allfather, etc. were the products of the magical skills of the dwarves. The dwarves lived under rocks or in the dark caves in Svartalfheim. This Norse Svartalfheim of dwarves had a variety of mines and forges.
The king of the dwarves, also the ruler of Svartalfheim was Hreidmar. There was a time when people believed that dwarves were the black elves. The stories about Svartalfheim were few; however, the dwarves appeared sometimes in Norse mythology.
